Welcome to Cape Town, one of the world’s most beautiful cities! It is early summer in South Africa in November and the temperatures are pleasant when we visit beautiful Cape Town and the wonderful areas around the city. South Africa has so much to offer that one visit will never be enough to experience it all. On this tour we will concentrate on Cape Town, the coastal town of Hermanus, the safari and wine regions. More than 80% of all who visit the country return, and if you travel here for the first time you will understand why.
In 1994, Nelson Mandela was elected president, and the country got its first black rule in almost 350 years. We visit Robben Island where Mandela was imprisoned for almost 18 years. We get to hear the story of apartheid, of reconciliation and forgiveness, of the fight for freedom from Cristo Brand, Mandela’s jailer and friend!
Millions still live in the large townships, and after a visit to the famous District 6 in the center of Cape Town, we head to Khayelitsha, the largest to see and feel life there.
Naturally, we will visit the magnificent Cape of Good Hope, the most south-westerly point on the African continent.
In the Franschhoek wine district, we will taste South African wine, which is among the best in the world. The largest vineyards in the country are only a short hour from the city. We visit some of them, test out wines, and buy the best ones home with us. Good wine goes with good food, and we want to enjoy the unique and very good cuisine in South Africa…
There will also be time to experience the Waterfront, the city’s tourist center which is known for shopping, restaurants, cafes and live music everywhere.
The cable car to the top of Table Mountain is of course part of the program. On this flat mountain in the middle of the city, you can see the whole city, the Kapp point and far out into the wine regions.
For a taste of the wildlife in Africa, there will also be time to the northeast of Cape Town where we can experience “The big 5”.
We end our journey with a couple of days in charming Gordon’s Bay where we can enjoy beautiful beaches and summarize all the impressions – a taste of the history, culture, traditions and people.
Fly onward at 02:25 with Turkish Airlines directly to Cape Town, arriving at 12:00. Transfer to Franschhoek, the charming wine town, located just an hour’s drive east of Cape Town. Check-in at Protea Marriott Hotel, a beautiful property with a swimming pool and a wonderful atmosphere. Enjoy dinner at the hotel or a restaurant in town. The most beautiful and charming wine town here is Franschhoek. We check in at the beautiful Protea Marriott Hotel in the city. Here there is a swimming pool, sunbeds and a wonderful atmosphere! Dinner at the hotel or restaurant in town awaits in the evening.
After breakfast, delve into the world of wine with visits to vineyards and learn more about the wine industry. Take a city walk in Franschhoek, visit the statue of Madeleine outside Drakenstein prison, and drive through the wine town of Paarl to the Spice Route. Enjoy lunch and explore the Spice Route’s microbrewery, chocolate factory, glassblowing shop, grappa distillery, and more. Visit the Grande Provence vineyard and indulge in wine tasting. In the evening, savor a delightful dinner with wine from the area.
After breakfast, return to Cape Town and head to Hout Bay, a picturesque fishing village located near Cape Town. Check-in at Vida Nova Retreat, a charming guest house/hotel with beautiful surroundings and views of the mountains. Explore the area and enjoy lunch upon arrival. In the evening, our guide will accompany us to a wonderful welcome dinner at the Gold Restaurant in Cape Town, featuring local dance and music.
Enjoy an early breakfast and take the ferry from the Waterfront to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Take a guided tour of the island and return to the Waterfront for lunch. Explore the bustling Waterfront area with its street musicians, cafes, restaurants, and craft market. In the afternoon, Christo Brand, Mandela’s former jailer and friend, will share his experiences with us. The day ends with a delicious dinner at the hotel.
After breakfast, head towards Cape Point, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. Visit Cape Point Nature Reserve and enjoy sightings of antelopes, zebras, baboons, and ostriches. Have lunch at Seaforth Restaurant and stop at Boulders Beach to see the penguin colony. Return to the hotel and enjoy dinner at a nearby restaurant.
After breakfast, visit Khayelitsha, a township near Cape Town, where local guides will provide insights into township life. Taste local beer, visit a primary school, and explore women’s projects showcasing ceramics and art. Enjoy a good lunch along the way and, if time permits, visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden. Dinner is on your own at the hotel, which offers a great menu selection.
Enjoy breakfast before taking the cable car up Table Mountain for panoramic views of the city. Explore the colorful houses in the Bo-Kaap area and have lunch at the Company’s Garden. Continue the city walk along Long Street and Green Market Square. Return to the hotel and relax in the beautiful garden. In the evening, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.
After breakfast, those who wish can join a morning tour in Cape Town, exploring the Waterfront or wandering around independently for shopping and leisure. Lunch is on your own, giving you the option to relax at the hotel and enjoy the sun, or explore the charming surroundings. In the evening, the hotel director will host a delightful dinner.
After breakfast, embark on a drive north to Aquila Private Game Reserve & Spa. Enjoy lunch upon arrival before setting out on an exciting safari adventure to witness Africa’s magnificent wildlife. Spot the “big five” and other remarkable animals in their natural habitat. Check into your luxurious room and indulge in dinner at the reserve.
Start the day with a breakfast and continue your safari experience with more wildlife sightings. Check out and have breakfast before heading south along the scenic coastal road to Hermanus, where you’ll enjoy lunch. Afterward, journey to Gordon’s Bay and check in at The Krystal Beach Hotel, a luxurious property with stunning views. Conclude the day with a delicious dinner at the hotel.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel. Take the day to bask in the sun, soak up the warmth, and unwind on the beautiful beaches.
After breakfast, those interested can return to Hermanus. Opt to join a whale-watching excursion, explore the seafront, or visit local shops. Lunch will be shared in Hermanus, and for those preferring to relax, spending the day on the hotel’s beautiful beach is also an option. Gather in the evening for a memorable farewell dinner, reflecting on the extraordinary days spent in South Africa’s south.
Enjoy a final breakfast in South Africa before spending the morning in Gordon’s Bay. In the afternoon, head to the airport for a Turkish Airlines flight departing at 18:00 for Istanbul.
Arrive in Istanbul at 05:30 and continue directly to Gardermoen at 09:00. Land at 11:00, with fond memories of your South African journey.
