Destination Africa recently hosted a group of 70 travellers from Utah, USA, on an extended journey through Kenya. Their route brought together city experiences, Rift Valley landscapes, wildlife, cultural encounters and the Kenyan coast.

The group’s Kenyan journey began in Nairobi.
As Kenya’s capital and one of East Africa’s most important travel hubs, Nairobi provides an ideal starting point for both first-time and returning visitors. It gives travellers time to settle into the destination while introducing them to Kenya’s culture, hospitality and energy.
One of the group’s most memorable experiences was a privately hosted Kenyan dinner at Bonsai Villa, owned by Destination Africa’s Duncan Muriuki.
Kenyan food, entertainment and warm hospitality transformed the evening into far more than a group dinner. It offered the travellers a personal welcome to Kenya and became one of the highlights of their journey.
Experiences like these take guests beyond a standard sightseeing itinerary. They create opportunities for conversation, connection and memories that remain long after the journey ends.
From Nairobi, the group travelled into the Great Rift Valley and onwards to Naivasha, where they visited Crescent Island.
Unlike a conventional vehicle-based game drive, Crescent Island gives visitors the opportunity to explore the landscape on foot with a guide. Walking through the open environment offers a different perspective on Kenya’s wildlife and creates excellent opportunities for photography.
For a group of this size, the experience required thoughtful coordination. Smaller guided groups allowed guests to enjoy the island comfortably and safely without losing the personal nature of the wildlife walk.
It was an opportunity to slow down, observe the landscape and experience another side of Kenya beyond the traditional safari vehicle.
The journey continued through Nakuru, adding another Great Rift Valley destination to the group’s route.
This region provides an important connection between Naivasha and the Maasai Mara. It also introduces travellers to more of Kenya’s varied landscapes before they continue deeper into the country’s safari regions.
For a large group, travelling between several destinations requires careful timing. Transport, luggage, meals, accommodation arrivals and activities must all work together. The Maasai Mara formed one of the central chapters of the itinerary.

The itinerary also included a visit to a traditional Maasai village. This gave the travellers an opportunity to learn more about Maasai culture, community life and traditions.
