Start the day in Black River Gorges National Park to hike among the colourful flora, experience views of the extinct volcano Trou-Aux-Cerfs, and swim at the thunderous Charmel Waterfall before admiring the ochre, orange, red, and purple soil.
The day tour includes lunch and rum tasting at Rhumerie de Chamarel. Today you’ll see there’s more to Mauritius than the beach, but after your excursion, it’s time to hit the coast – Mauritius is recognized for its sun, sea, and pure, white sand. You’ll be picked up from your hotel and taken an hour and a half north to the island’s nicest beach resorts.
Apply sunscreen and obtain a holiday glow over the next two days. You’ll have plenty of time to swim and read between sunbathing sessions. This is an excellent place to snorkel, and most hotels offer free watersports. In the evenings, enjoy a sunset cocktail and creole food.
Spend your final days off-route. You’ll tour some of the island’s local settlements, where you’ll meet brilliant craftsmen and people enjoying gato piment (Mauritian chili cakes), samoussas (a local variation of the Indian samosa), and dall pouri (fried bread). You’ll also tour a fruit agricultural plantation and Tamarind Falls. After exploring, a local will give you a handmade family lunch and the afternoon is spent finding the island’s most stunning views and sceneries.
