One Journey at a Time
Earlier this month, Destination Africa and Kenya Airways proudly joined forces at the Twende SouthAfrica tourism showcase at Two Rivers Mall in Nairobi. This vibrant collaboration was designed to promote intra-African tourism and give Kenyans a first-hand taste of what South Africa has to offer. Visa-free, with direct flights and affordable travel packages.
Visitors to our stand had the chance to register for an exciting giveaway. An all-expenses-paid trip to South Africa, sponsored by Kenya Airways and Destination Africa. The lucky winner? None other than beloved Kenyan actor Pascal Tokodi. Overjoyed by the news, Pascal shared his enthusiasm for exploring South Africa’s cultural richness, natural beauty and unforgettable experiences. He’ll even be adding extra nights to fully immerse himself in all that the country has to offer. We look forward to following his journey.
Destination Africa believes deeply in the power of intra-African tourism. For too long, the African travel trade has looked outward, focusing on long-haul international markets. Meanwhile, the demand, interest and spending power within Africa have been overlooked. Africans want to travel, and millions are already able to afford it. What’s often been missing is a trusted partner who understands the local context. That is where we come in.
With established teams in Nairobi, Cape Town and Addis Ababa, Destination Africa makes it easy for families, companies and schools to plan travel without the hassle of unreliable online searches or international middlemen. We are proudly African and committed to building meaningful connections across the continent.
In South Africa, we go beyond the usual tourist trail. We work with individuals who embody the country’s complex and inspiring history. For example, we collaborate with Antoinette Sithole, sister of Hector Pieterson, the young boy whose tragic death became a global symbol of the Soweto Uprising. Visitors can meet her and hear the story firsthand. This deepens understanding far beyond textbooks.
We also introduce travelers to Christo Brand, who as an 18-year-old prison warder was assigned to Nelson Mandela on Robben Island. Despite being on opposite sides of a deeply divided society, a lifelong friendship blossomed. A powerful reminder of South Africa’s journey toward reconciliation.
And then there’s Igshaan Amlay, once a teenage activist arrested during apartheid protests and later convicted as one of the Wynberg Seven. He shares powerful stories of how the Group Areas Act tore communities apart. His personal insight offers a vital look into a painful chapter of South African history.
These human connections, combined with South Africa’s world-class offerings such as gourmet cuisine, fine wines, shopping, spa retreats, golf, scenic road trips and spectacular landscapes, make the country a truly compelling destination for Kenyans.
We’re excited to watch Pascal Tokodi’s journey as he documents his experience for fellow Kenyans. Through this partnership with Kenya Airways, we invite everyone to explore South Africa. No visa required, direct flights from Nairobi and great value for money.
It is time to see the richness of our own continent.
