TOUR AT A GLANCE

The Maldives, which are deservedly recognised as a tropical paradise, draw tourists from all over the world who enjoy luxurious resorts and sunbathing. But the Maldives are also quickly emerging as a top spot for water sports and adventurous travellers. These include amazing scuba diving and snorkelling, fantastic surfing, sea kayaking safaris, and much more. By seaplane, our Maldives Active Adventure tour transports you to the local island of Gan and the other atolls and islands in quest of aquatic experiences from the cosmopolitan capital of Male. The new Star Wars Rogue One movie also used Lammu atoll as the setting for the planet Scarif. Included activities include stand-up paddle boarding, snorkelling, scuba diving, whether it be an introductory dive or a certified dive, a kayak safari stopping at scenic sandbars and desolate islands, exploring the local island by jeep and bicycle for a close-up look at the local culture. There is also plenty of time for additional participation in your favourite activities, as well as for picnics and beach barbecues.

The longest beach in the Maldives is on Gan Island, the largest island in the Maldivian Archipelago and part of Laamu Atoll (7.8km of white sandy beach). The new Star Wars Rogue One movie also used Lammu atoll as the setting for the planet Scarif. Reveries is a charming seaside property constructed in a distinctive contemporary Maldivian design and is tucked away in a delightful garden setting. This 23-room, 4-star facility has been welcome visitors from all over the world to explore the undiscovered reefs’ hidden gems and learn about the islanders’ ancestry.

Sea kayaking will be done throughout the day, giving the chance to explore the east side of the atoll. Before paddling into the inner atoll, you will receive instruction on how to paddle and manoeuvre the kayak. There will be plenty of opportunity to make snorkelling stops at sandbanks and uninhabited islands to get a taste of the Maldives’ incredible underwater environment. Before returning to Gan, there will be time for a picnic lunch and some downtime.

You have the morning free to laze around on the beach, go snorkelling at the house reef, or simply unwind in the plunge pool. You will get the chance to take a jeep tour around the island of Gan this afternoon. The freshwater lake in the heart of Gan, known as the Red Lake because of the reddish hue the tree leaves gave the water, was once thought to have no bottom and is home to some historic Buddhist ruins. A number of historical sites will be visited, and you’ll learn more about Maldivian history and daily life by touring a fish industry and a nearby vegetable farm. The journey will come to a close with a stop at a nearby café where you can try traditional “hedika,” which are Maldivian savoury and sweet little bites served with black tea.

You have the opportunity to try SCUBA diving right now! The first PADI scuba diving and water sports facility on a local island in Laamu Atoll was Reveries dive club, a PADI-registered dive school run by Europeans and locals. We offer a Discover Scuba Diving Course for individuals who have never dived before where you learn the fundamental safety precautions and abilities required to dive directly under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional. From the shore, you will complete two dives. Divers who meet the necessary requirements can explore this wonderland on two boat dives. Please let us know in advance if you do not want to do scuba diving so that we can arrange an additional boat trip for snorkelling in its place.

For the chance to learn to stand up paddle, get to the water. Before putting the necessary skills to the test on the water, learn and practise them on dry ground with an instructor. Following lunch, your guide and I will bicycle-tour Gan’s northern regions. Travel the palm-lined Link Road, which links Gan to the islands of Fonadhoo, Kadhdhoo, and Maandhoo—a group of islands that together make up the largest local community settlement in the Maldives. You’ll receive fresh coconut water, known locally as “kurumba,” as payment for your travels.

A guide will take you to a secluded, uninhabited island where you can choose to unwind, sunbathe, swim, or snorkel in the clear seas while a BBQ meal is being prepared. More of the same after lunch before going back to Gan.
