This traditional safari and beach combination has been designed for couples wishing to celebrate, whether it be for a honeymoon, anniversary, or just a quiet getaway for two. This trip is luxurious from beginning to end and takes its time, giving you nearly two weeks to see three of Tanzania’s most renowned game reserves and a lavish tropical island getaway.

Before taking in Africa’s simplest Big 5 wildlife viewing at the Ngorongoro Crater, start with a deluxe tree-house suite and the magnificent diversity of Lake Manyara National Park. Your spectacular lodging is located directly on the crater’s edge. The theme of safari continues at the storied Serengeti National Park, where you’ll transfer to a Hemingway-inspired mobile tented camp and follow Mother Nature’s most amazing spectacle: the big wildebeest migration. There are lots of things to do that will tempt you away from the Lodge’s lovely gardens and wonderful, individualised service. It is strongly advised to take a day excursion to Arusha National Park, which offers magnificent views of Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as to wander through the Natural History Museum and see the 3.5 million year old Leatoli Footprints. Before settling in for a cosy night at the Lodge, explore the vibrant markets and stunning coffee plantations nearby.

The variety of ecosystems in Lake Manyara National Park makes it a haven for naturalists. The park contains a wide variety of animals, from marshes and woods to grasslands and hot springs. There have been around 400 bird species identified, including sizable flamingo flocks and migratory water birds. The forests of Manyara are alive with the sounds of monkeys and birds, and the acacia woodlands are home to the lions and elephants of Manyara, noted for their propensity to climb trees.

Spend two nights in one of the lodge’s lovely tree-house rooms and explore this wonderful park. The treehouses are nestled in the branches of an old mahogany forest and are elegantly equipped and quite comfy. Bright birds flit around camp, setting the tone for the day’s activities, which include night drives that provide intriguing insights into the park’s vibrant nocturnal ecology as well as morning and afternoon game watching expeditions conducted by knowledgeable guides.

Enjoy a refreshing beverage and the African sunset to cap off your time at Lake Manyara. You are presented with expansive views. The eye is attracted through flocks of flamingos on the lakeside to a line of pale purple peaks – jagged towers standing guard over the Maasai Steppes, the enormous East African grasslands, and your next destination – where the forest gives way to magnificent plains.

You are transferred from Lake Manyara to the impressive Ngorongoro Crater. As implied by its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this is a location of exceptional splendour. An astounding 25,000 large mammals, including black rhino, wildebeest, and zebra as well as Africa’s densest concentrations of lions, call the world’s largest intact and un-flooded caldera, which was created by a major volcanic eruption, home. The whole range of predators can be found in the Crater, including hyena, wild dog, leopard, and cheetah, as well as elephant, buffalo, and hippos in its wetlands.

Your magnificent lodging, Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, sits directly on the crater’s edge and overlooks it all. This Lodge is ruled by glitzy extravagance, from the personal butler service and exquisite dining to the baths lighted by chandeliers. Every suite has breathtaking views, so it could be difficult to drag yourself away from your preferred viewing location, but knowledgeable guides in game viewing 4X4s are waiting for you.

Your path drops via the rim’s verdant rainforests before descending 610 metres to the crater floor’s grasslands, which cover an area of around 260 square kilometres. The Crater is Big 5 country despite its diminutive size, and the openness of the environment makes game viewing enjoyable and straightforward. You’ll spend the day exploring the crater floor and taking breaks for a picnic among the grazing herds in the grasslands. Return to the Lodge for lavish feasts in the dome dining room and sunset cocktails on the crater rim.

You can reach Tanzania’s first wildlife reserve, the Serengeti National Park, and the undulating grasslands the local Maasai refer to as Siringitu, or “the area where the land moves on forever,” after a brief flight. Africa’s highest density of large mammals may be found in the Serengeti, one of the planet’s oldest ecosystems.

The Serengeti, where one may enjoy year-round wildlife viewing, is the natural site for the big wildebeest migration. Between November and July, the wildebeest herds make their way across the Serengeti grasslands, creating a sight that draws both nearby and distant predators. You can always count on heart-pounding game viewing, especially during the infamous river crossings in June and July.

Your lodging has been carefully selected to meet your needs: Serengeti Under Canvas offers upscale tent accommodations with unmatched chances to see wildlife. These remote spots change in time with the migration of the herds.

Spend three nights at Serengeti Under Canvas to fully experience the drama of this famous reserve in Africa. The focus is on basic luxury and a secluded, romantic atmosphere, with daily game drives or popular early-morning hot-air balloon trips as the primary means of watching the migration extravaganza. The experience is enhanced with led nature hikes and visits to Maasai villages.

What better way to wrap up your trip after all those early morning starts and exciting game viewings than to slow down, take off your shoes, and relax in a beach chair? You may do it on Mnemba, a personal island in the Indian Ocean, which is also your final stop. Off Zanzibar’s north-east coast, Mnemba Island is a pristine refuge of wildlife and offers post-safari travellers a range of activities, from diving to turtle watching, a suitably eclectic conclusion to this varied, well-balanced journey.

Mnemba is a picture-perfect tropical idyll, surrounded by an astounding variety of marine life and spectacular coral reefs. Spend your days snorkelling or scuba diving in the gorgeous waters, or simply relaxing on the beaches. Mnemba provides windsurfing, kayaking, fly-fishing, and diving training for more adventurous travellers.

Mnemba is a charming “heaven found” because to its welcoming atmosphere, indulgent massages, and thoughtful touches. The chalets have all the appeal of a Robinson Crusoe-style, rustic building without sacrificing any of the luxuries of a five-star hotel.
